Hello, I’m Gobi Krishna D, though many know me as Krishna, Gobi, or even Kanna. My journey has been one of relentless struggle and perseverance, and I’d like to share a brief glimpse into my life and the challenges I’ve faced.
I pursued Computer Science and Engineering in Bangalore and other institutions, returning to Sri Lanka with aspirations and dreams. Unfortunately, life had other plans. Batticaloa, where I found myself, was fraught with difficulties. My family’s financial struggles necessitated selling part of our land, which left us with insufficient funds to build a new home. We took out a loan to complete the construction, but our resources were stretched thin. The house was incomplete, with only basic fixtures and no tiles in the bathrooms.
In the face of financial hardship, I took on local jobs, including visiting lectures and small communication roles. My skills in software development went largely unrecognized in my village, where opportunities were limited. Despite this, I developed innovative solutions, including one of Sri Lanka’s first online marketplaces, which gained little traction. I also created iOS and Android apps with advanced customer support features but faced limited recognition.
Then, my life took a devastating turn. I was involved in a severe accident that resulted in memory loss, brain injury, and partial paralysis. This incident occurred amidst a severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka, with shortages of essential resources like power, petrol, and gas. The accident, combined with the national turmoil, led to the loss of my online marketplace venture.
After recovering, I moved to Colombo and started offering small online classes and web development services. I also developed a self-publishing platform, another first in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, during my health struggles, my Google developer account was deleted because I couldn’t verify it while hospitalized. The app associated with Neermai, which was on the Google Store, was also lost. This happened despite my not having done anything wrong; the app was simply deleted due to inactivity and lack of verification during my hospitalization.
I’ve faced numerous challenges, from managing rental properties with problematic tenants to dealing with health issues and financial constraints. Despite these hurdles, I remain committed to my work. With support from a friend in the UK, we established a software development company that is still in its early stages. Finding dedicated staff has been challenging, and my self-publishing platform struggles to attract volunteers.
The story I’ve shared is just a snapshot of my journey. There are many more details and struggles that I will delve into in future posts.
